Heart Of The Matter

Fly High, Silver Bird

I thought about you today,
A magnificent memory caught in sands of time,
Still freshly woven in my mind,
The wild and wilful spirit,
Bright as the evening star,
And gloom filled as the darkest night.

I thought about you today,
So at home in dark, smoky places,
Hidden by bright garish light,
And lost in the sombre shadows of the night.

I thought about you today,
Desperate to reach out and let go of the pain,
Trusting no one,
And disbelieving of the truth,
You walked in an ocean of despair,
And cast your hopes to the wind,
Defiant and deliberate in your attempt,
To ride white horses on the shore.

Did you fly high Silver Bird?
And find yourself,
By still, clear water,
In a land of love and light,
With landscapes delicately painted,
By an artist of some renown,
The colours fresh and beautiful to your eye,
Silver-white clouds dappling azure skies,
And soft, shimmering, sand beneath your feet.

I thought about you today, Silver Bird,
So young in years,
Yet in the body,
Old and much decayed,
And today,
When I thought of you,
I closed my eyes,
And earnestly, to God above,
I prayed.
