Rog's Rhymes~~~Picking up the Pieces of her Broken Heart
Love Like There's No Tomorrow
   KKD Music Sigs
Pictures, mementos of his long past youth surround him, his life preserved they keep

She stands all alone in the back of the church; a white hared lady frail and bent
And she gazes in awe at the hundreds of bouquets and wreaths his many friends have sent
In her hand just a single flower, she thinks of how their family's hatred had made them part
And today at long last she will finally pick up the very last pieces of her broken heart

Anger fills her very being when she thinks of the life they should have had together
But she is black and he was white and their families drove them apart forever
In today's world they would not have faced the bitter issues that cursed them from the start
Alas, too late for them, now all that's left is picking up the pieces of her broken heart

The woman pauses to touch the folded gnarled hands of the one for whom she's weeping
And she ponders in her heart the secret love that she has for a lifetime been silently keeping
She places a red rose on the casket and as the flower falls to the floor and crumbles apart,
stoops to gather the petals, whispering, "excuse me, while I pick up the pieces of my broken heart"
