Poetry For Everyday People

Your Knight And Shining Poet

Lying in bed
you smell of lavender

candle burning
on your night stand
candle burning
top of an old
faded
Websters dictionary
your shades are down
your shoes are empty

flipping channels
your body's tight
strong
lonely
one hand on the remote
one hand on your stomach
your mind racing

you sit back up
you go to your computer
the world is there
the world is outside
you go back to bed

you grab your water glass
on your night stand
by your books
take a sip
sit up in bed
you put lotion
on your elbows
your hands
your heels
bottoms of your feet
you smell of lavender
you lay back down
the room dances
with flickering light
the pillow takes your mind
makes promises
you surrender

and I, here,
a million miles away,
guarding your nights,

I quietly kiss the top of your head,
softly kiss the bottoms of your feet,
I kissed your heart one night
and you smiled in your sleep.
