Reflections of My Perceptions

black man's plight

and you tell yourself you're different from the rest
if you're not better, then you're certainly the best
you can hold your head high and beat your chest
you have a college degree, shiney shoes, suits pressed
you're a man of distinction live and in the flesh
a cut above, you would never settle for less
Like the first rose of spring, its petals so fresh
you've forgotten they don't mean it when they say oh yes
so when you stepping forward, you need to watch your step
because when you slip, they'll smile when seeing your distress
and the ones you forgot will be the only ones left
and you'll tell yourself you're no different from the rest
