 SERPENT'S BITE
Caged in the snake charmer's basket
Seemingly benign
Rage seethes
Just beneath the surface
Slithering silently
Coiled now
Ready to strike

Sinuously tightening
Around the heart and psyche
Fomenting its anger
Ever so slowly
It squeezes out
All compassion
Choking away
Rational thought

Hollow fanged, dripping
With venomous thoughts
It lashes forth and hits
At the core of another
Leaving scars
Weakening trust
With its poison
Killing its own soul
With its bite
