Poetic-Verses from ATHANASE

The Imam al-Hadrami (English)

To my friend, Prince Sidi Ahmed Ould Abeidna,
worthy descendant of the great Islamic mystic,
The Imam al-Hadrami, author of the celebrated work
'Al-Ichara Fi Tedbiri al-Imara'.

Bismillâh al-Rahmân al-Rahîm
(In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful)

Time is built upon time and day upon day
just as the light of God builds upon the soul;
blessed are those whose blazing eyes
can contemplate the splendour of creatures made from love!

Blessed is The Imam whose sacred faith
guided with its brilliance the Almoravidian armies
towards glorious Morocco and the clear skies
of fortunate Iberia decked in crimson roses.

Sleep, gentle Friend of the Angels, lulled by the warm shadow
of palms floating under the sun like battle standards,
and may men incline before your lofty slumber

their bodies forged from bronze and their emerald prayers!
O Master, wipe away the tears of those who weep
and turn into celestial flowers the scars of the heart!
