My Bestest Friend
You found me in a dogs home
When I was just a pup
Matted cold and dirty
My limpid eyes lit up
I barked oh get me out of here
Before I reach my end
I`ll love you `till the day I die
I`ll be your bestest friend.
You took me home and fed me
With love and tender care
You taught me things I did not know
I`m so glad you were there
Fourteen years, I`m getting old
And frankly so are you
We`ve walked through life together
Like people and dogs do
I`ve watched the children growing
And now they`re all grown ups
As I did when they were young
I fiercly guard their pups
When they`ve gone home and we`re alone
And silence fills the air
I smile and lie beside the fire
While you doze in your chair
Looking back on days gone by
I feel so very lucky
You chose me so long ago
When I was still a puppy.
We drift off in a younger world
Where all our dreams come true
And I remember way back then
When I came home with you
I think of all the fun we`ve had
And I am so content
Life with you is wonderful
My love has been well spent
So when it`s time for me to go
When it is the end
I`ll still guard you in heaven
`Cause you`re my bestest friend
