 Princess Di

Was I the only one,
who didn't cry.
When I heard the news,
that Di had died?

I really couldn't believe,
all the fuss.
She wasn't really,
one of us.

A fancy title,
and fancy clothes.
Come on,
be honest,
not England's Rose.

Don't get me wrong,
I've a lot of time,
for the Royal Family,
(perhaps not all of 'em!)

Her Majesty,
The Queen,
is fine.
She's been around,
throughout my life.

Her face is everywhere,
to be seen.
On stamps,
and money,
t.v. screen.

But I couldn't cry,
when Diana died.
There were no feelings,
there inside.

The media went into a frenzy.
"She was a saint"
"Great mother too"

Well let's be honest,
she was neither of those,
just a beautiful woman,
in designer clothes.

Any woman could be a 'Great mother' too,
if they sent their kids off,
to boarding school!

'The Queen of Hearts'
not in my book.
Just a panda-eyed Princess,
a bit of a tart.

I've seen her memorial fountain,
in Kensington Gardens.
A muddy ditch,
most times fenced off.

Where young and old,
paddle their feet.
Little respect,
just a summer's day treat.

Mountains of flowers,
after she died.
Balloons and soft toys,
grown men cried.

She didn't deserve to die so young,
the fat Egyptian cried for his son.
He talked of a conspiracy.
Of that,
there's no proof to be seen.

So rest now Diana,
in your island grave.
You're now a part of history.

And after all the media fuss.

Perhaps you were just one of us?
