Poetry For Everyday People

Preaching The Preach

I don't believe
in giving our life
to God?

seems crazy
to give back
the greatest
gift ever given,

I believe we
have to live
our life, do
the best we can
with it,

pray,
believe in your
religion,

don't close the mind,
or limit the thinking,

living
without open philosophical
discussions seems limited living,

I hate to see
those people so
lost thinking they
are found, mostly found
by religious con artists,
politicians working it,
preaching the word
don't make you religious nor
honest nor capable of religious
miracles, white suits don't make
you holly, gray hair don't make
you wise,

buckets full of money, ability
to take credit cards, checks,
retirement funds, stocks, bonds,
advertising, selling soul schemes on
TV, in movies, underground movements,
hit songs, bands, working the young
minds, the old minds, the in between minds,

Cadillac preachers:
"the money is going to God,
 the Hugo Boss suits, mansions,
are to look good for God doing
 his work"

politicians:
"the money is going for research
programs to fund education, the planning
commission will meet for two weeks in the
Cayman islands, men in women's clothing,
 scotch, working girls, caterers, massages,
we hope in a couple of years of hard
relentless research (that will be extended
 if need),
to fully grasp the program's potential
 for education"

healing is a business,
healing somebody's pocket,
it's bigger than ever, big as ever, they
got you where they want you,
selling out stadiums, culting you,
pulling your God strings, playing you,

some hard core education
can teach minds to open up and
understand the concept of perception,
the integrity of instinct,
the wiseness of brilliant minds,
kind souls, who fought to enlighten
us, to give us a chance to educate
ourselves to our own conclusions,

it's the young ones
I worry about the most,
haven't lived enough to
make that decision,

as I always say
my children (my hands waving in the air)

no true religion
involves hate or
taking money out
your pocket,

that's your first
clue to run.
