Poetry For Everyday People

Connections

Early in the night
he spoke to her
of e.e. Cummings
and capital letters,

she didn't get it,

later that night
as they sat on her
sofa, drinking wine
from a box,
she quoted
Emily Dickinson
without hesitation,

he knew,
he saw something
in her, he told her
she was terrific,
she smiled and
told him she was
better than average,

that's when I stopped
watching the movie, to
write, thankful for the
inspiration,

"Love Ludlow"

all the things
we need, to connect,
all the little gestures
that make us fall,
a wink, thumbs up, a smile,
tight cloth, tight body,
heels dangling from
magnificent toes, smoke
dancing, rising, curling,
seduction, a glance, the
girl in the apartment across
the street, the guy at Starbucks
everyday same time as you,

connecting with another
is a form of comfort,
back-up to our theories,
a chance, a beginning, a
mind hug,

there comes a time
when you stop falling
in love a hundred times
a day, or lust,
even if you live in
South Beach,

you get to another
level, more specific,
not looking to train
or educate or chance,
you know what you want,
no matter your freak?
your madness?  the
beautiful thing about
life is:  there is always
somebody out there
waiting,
capable,
qualified.
