An Ungentlemanly Act - Falkland Islands  1982

Absurd situations did abound.
Like the man walking down the road,
carrying a white flag.
While bullets were flying all around.
He was just going off to work.

And then there was the woman,
or so I've been told.
Who made cups of tea for our lads.
As they fired at the Argies,
coming down the road.
She must have been friggin mad!

The Marines fought hard,
but they knew.
It was all to no avail.
The Argies had come,
uninvited,
not guests.
It was such an ungentlemanly act.

The Governor ordered,
as Commander in Chief.
That the Marines lay down their arms.
To save the lives of the innocent,
and cause the Islands no harm.

So the invaders marched right in.
(but not without a fight)
and tried to change the way of life,
of these islanders,
who pledged their allegiance,
to Britain and the Crown.

How dare anyone think,
that they can bully us around.
And take by force what is rightly ours.
That was their big mistake.

While Maggie prepared the Task Force,
to sail half-way round the world.
And just as we found in 1940,
Britain was to fight alone.

And so the Falklands War was fought.
It was such a bloody time.
But soon the enemy were kicked out,
of a place that wasn't theirs.
There was so much pain, death and suffering,
for such an ungentlemanly act.
