 ramblings and things

Orator

He had a simple rule of thumb
Which he used throughout his life
In times of bliss and happiness
And in times of fear and strife
I would sit and listen to him
And my eyes would start to glaze
And sometimes I would wonder
If I was here or elsewhere in a daze
He would use long strings of jargon
A sort of business speak
Which many seem to admire
But might just as well be spoken Greek
And when you'd boiled his words down
Tried to extract the meaning at their core
You'd find there a string of nonsense
Very seldom very much more
Oh he rose to fame and glory
Was regarded as a wit throughout the land
Have you noticed how folk tend to admire
That which they just don't understand
He was so many times
Given a standing ovation
By his faithful fans
From a grateful nation
I've just seen him in the house
There in his ermined cape
Elevated to the peerage
For constant language rape
His rule of thumb
And I swear this is true
Always use a lot of long words
Even when a single word will do
