Poetry For Everyday People

Holding On

What made you
change your mind?

I walked past
our bench,
all
I could think of
was our pact,

that night in the
snow, drinking, building
the worlds biggest
snow woman, wrapping my
scarf around your neck,
your little ear rings,
kissing your cold cheek,
your smell, who else can
I talk too about anything
and everything?

I guess I kept thinking
why do good things have
to end?

refusal at times can sustain,

I can't think of Christmas
without our fifth Ave. strolls,
or the cookie, beer, and
joint, you left out
for Santa every year,

all your shoes
lined up and eager
for your feet,

I thought by now
you'd forget me,

I can't believe you
can still
see me?
hear me?

how are we doing this?
