Heart Of The Matter
Summer In The City
Summer in the city,
A remnant from the past,
Young love that's gone forever,
How we both thought it would last,
That sultry summer feeling,
Those long, hot, halcyon days,
I still recall in detail,
Your wild and winning ways,
And what became of Dino?
Our home grown superstar,
He sang and played for peanuts,
Remember? Maggie's Bar?
I recall that we were happy,
And so in love, it seems,
The hours we spent just talking,
Only building hopes, and dreams,
I remember when your love died,
I thought that I died too,
It took a long, long time for me,
To say goodbye, to you,
I heard that you got married,
It broke my heart, you see,
You took away my futile hope,
I hung on, foolishly,
In time I came to realise,
We weren't meant to be,
And somewhere in the distance,
There'd be someone else for me,
I don't think of you that often,
You're a distant memory,
But, summer in the city,
Somehow brings it back to me.
