Voting should be free, every poet should be included in the ability for the recognituipon of the community spotlight, if someone has talent they shouldnt ahv etopay to to have the right to be recognised, thats just silly....i might never win an award for my poems but there are tons pof poems i would vote for that are really good who dont have the vote option buit the ones who pay for instant gratification i cant find anyway
another thought since you are sponsored by many writers who pay for advertisers and such is perhaps promote them and the other writers in this communtiy by reaching out to talen agencies and stuff so some writers who do not know where to look to be publishe dor do not want to spend a couple thousand dollars to be self published can be discoverd, there are many very incredible writes and authors on this poem , you could make a book out of their works and pay them their royalties so they can earn back the money they put into the community. SOme of us are poor and can't afford to contribute but we write our souls as well and wouldnt mind the opportunity to be published in a book but the way the votes are monopolised here, voting for who and what goes in it wouldnt work....just a few thoughts other free sites offer, they have people who spend time looking for agencies intereste din their poets and spend time organizing books they sell and the poets make money from royalties or their contributed money goes into some fundraiser......like amnesty international or unicef or MADD or whatever, right now poets jsut write on here to express themselves to be noticed by otherspoets but not really pushed to their limits and inspired by the reality of what they can truly accomplish as you make a bit of money off of some of them.
No offense but your advertisers pay you money and the poets here are providing you a free service, many of them are good enough to go to another site where they are paid to write, and have people come into their site etc, as this is a free site and i didnt read all the small print as i was excited to have my own space, i can choose to walk away or continue im aware of that, but you can always make your amends to the poets who have worked hard to make you money and feed your families as now they are working a second job, for you for free, if you ask me you can do something for some of them in return,,,,,,
the poets here learn from eachother and in my crits i often have to remind them about the rules of writing and what makes a poem as many of them are not educated, on your site you have no information of what makes a poem a poem or any literary terms for them to turn to, no words from the wise so to speak, as i provide you with another free service to upgrade your site you should include somewhere new poets and old can turn to to look at what makes a poem the types of poems there are the philosophies behind poetry, etcetera(metaphors similies hyperboles onomatopeas illiteration, blah blah blah.)
You could also hand out award or highlight certian sites that are worth everybody to visit, instead of having to buy advertising, but that we defeat the purpose of advertising... i think you could hand out award though as many people claim the contest is rigged and many people dont participate in it because they cant afford it anyway, which isnt fair as they feed and clothe your family after they work all day and pour out their hearts(sorry for the rant)
you could have a list of top 100 hundred top voted poems and have a link to them so people can view them, but i think thats already there, not sure, i never check because i can't get a vote, you could also have a link to the tope 50 worst poems of all time if people wanted to sign up for that, but thats controversial, im just being creative, but that would get more attention than the top 100 I bet.
