My Mom said it was like being, "on sixes and nines'
(means your nerves are on edge), but you cannot define
The problem or stress that is bothering you,
"Climbing the walls" was my Mom's point of view.
One of her favorites was, us kids would agree,
"Do you want to see me go right through the ceiling?"
As a youngster, I wondered if she had the power,
And if she could fly as high as the Eiffel tower.
In California, you never order a 'California hamburger',
The waitress gets confused, and the whole restaurant's astir.
In my hometown, if you order without that "contraction",
You get a plain burger, plain bun: and NO satisfaction!!!
Has anyone, outside of Iowa, ever heard of a 'Farmer's tan'?
And 'Beauty is as Beauty does' was repeated again, and again.
These same things mean different things, depending in part
your location in the country, and 'nationalities of the heart'.
Can anyone relate to these sayings of old?
I sometimes put them in poems (yes, I'm that BOLD)
And afterward, I wonder if anyone can decide
The message I'm relating, or just go along for the ride.
