A LOVE TUNE

Sitting on a rug with  LPs strewn about
albums from long ago
Swaying in my mind to a tune of love
wondering what if - what if

An old 45 record is playing
Jo Stafford sings a lovely melody
What memories it brings back



You were leaning against the door
Looking at me with love in your eyes
mouthing you belong to me

Knowing that you will be leaving before long
When will you be back
remember you belong to me



Laying on the soft grass under a blanket of stars
Holding your dog tags in my hand
the taste of tears at the back of my throat

I will be so alone without you
When you look at that star
Remember that I am looking at it too

You belonged to me and I belonged to you
First love is hard to forget - full of bittersweetness
Old songs brings back the memories
