Poetry For Everyday People

Downtown

I couldn't remember
why I kissed you?
the first time,
we were drinking
smoking trying to
leave something behind,

people at happy
hour, ice cubes dancing,
feeling, numbed awareness,
room full of strangers,
desperate moves,
we all need to go
downtown baby,

I like you here searching
melting memories into
forgiveness, shedding the
exterior, letting your heels
dangle and fall, your eyes
easy, we're pros at this,
we've gone home with the moon,
shamed out smiling in the sun,

your toes are painted blue
teasingly pointing, your attention to
detail lacks not, I am seduced,
I feel sweet regret in my future, more
drinks, more laughter, more living in this buzz,

sweet mind opening shy killing
life celebrating buzz.
