Heart Of The Matter
Your Old Book Of Longing
I opened your old book of longing,
I'd taken it down from the shelf,
I read about all of your lovers,
I think I appeared, chapter twelve,
On the cover, you painted a picture,
Two lovers alone on the shore,
Inside you wrote an inscription,
To the one you would love evermore,
The plot was bold and intriguing,
The characters varied and true,
They all had one thing in common,
They had foolishly fallen for you,
You do have a kind of charisma,
A spirit that's so cavalier,
It appears that you love ‘em and leave ‘em,
And you tell them what they want to hear,
I read it from cover to cover,
Unsurprised, that you still remain free,
I think I appeared, chapter twelve,
Re-appeared when you reached, twenty three.
I opened your old book of longing,
Catalogued all your loves and your lust,
I refused, when you asked me to dinner,
I'm still working through issues of trust.

This is dedicated,
With love to Jack …..
From the only one,
That knocked him back!
