 Leicester Square

‘Mind the gap!' goes the monotone voice
As I step through the trains sliding doors
I can't believe I travel into town by choice
I think to myself as I pass the man who snores

People head towards the exit sign
As others look lost in the city
Making connections to the Northern Line
Passing the homeless looking for pity

As I travel up the escalators into the London air
The stairway to heaven I don't think it is
As the signs on the wall welcome me to ‘Leicester Square'
I look at the lovers coming down having a kiss

As I approach the metal guards called the ticket machines
With my overpriced travel card in hand
I realize what living in London means
But laugh, as the tourists around me will never understand.
