Lazy Day
This morning I rise
and want the day off.
I need some more sleep,
so I fake a small cough.
I look out the window
and see rainy skies.
My hair is a mess,
there's blur in my eyes.
What could be better
than calling in sick,
lolling in bed,
and watching a flick?
I'll grab a good book
from one of my shelves.
My cohorts at work
can fend for themselves.
Accomplishing something
might make me feel better.
Forget any gardening,
outside just got wetter.
I'm starving to death,
I need some food now!
Feeding myself
is one task I'll allow.
Don't make me feel guilty
this day I have earned.
Mental health days
are important, I've learned.
So, a note to my boss,
here in bed I shall stay.
Don't bother to call me,
just send me my pay!
