You may look at me and see a perfect smile
We may stop to chat about our lives for a while

As we part you may comment on how well I look
And pause to praise the tasty meal I cooked

But this woman you see before your very eyes
Has been hit by a stroke and has been truamatized

Would you believe if I said it felt like a shock
A lightning bolt that hit me down like a rock

When I awoke my body felt devided in two
After eight weeks in a coma I did not have a clue

Although I looked the same I was suddenly changed
Everything in my brain was forever rearranged

I was a stranger to myself as my memory was erased
For the next six months I never knew to whom I faced

Then a bright light went off in my head one sunny day
I remembered my husband and my lovely rose bouquet

From that point on jumbled memories quickly fell into place
But my ruined equilibrium could not ever be replaced

My balance for walking was permanently thrown off key
All the strength I possessed  had left my shaky knees

Paralyses has claimed its right over my right side
My body carries an invisible line too hard to hide

But slowly I found the joy of expressing what I had to say
When the stroke caused a physical block in the way

Sometimes I can hardly remember my paralyses at all
For God's gift of writing has answered my grief striken call

To see me you may wonder why I'm so very proud
My poetry speaks all the words I can't speak out loud

God had a plan for my life so wonderful to refuse
I could only accept it as I could not find any excuse

You see praising God is what this is all about
In that bolt of lightening HE  added the volumn to my unheard shouts

           Note:
Since my stroke I have become more emphatic
in the messages I want to impart to the world.
My stroke opened a door in reaching others in
a way that I could never dream of before, through
the words of my poetry.
            Thank you Jesus!
