We wait dreading the words we don't want to hear!
Knowing that it's inevitable, oh the deep rooted fear!
Looking at the phone, waiting for that call;
Hoping it wont ring out there in the hall!
Anticipation causing fear, rooted to the floor,
Not knowing if or when, they will walk through that door.
And tell us the words we don't really want to hear!
‘Mum, I'm off to war, but please don't fret or fear!'
And though we show strength to those kids we hold dear!
Deep down inside, we are shaking in fear!!!
And we look to them and smile, and nod our head;
Showing support, hoping they don't come back dead!
The fear inside, the not knowing when - oh the pain!
And cringing inside when the phone goes again!
And they pack up their belongings, ready to war;
And still we are confused, and wonder what it's for!
And we wave them off, and bid them safe trip,
But as we close the door, we are feeling so sick!
They bravely go off, fighting for peace and unite…
To save us from tyranny…and to do that they must fight!
And how does God feel, what would He say?
I am sure it won't be good; in fact, far from okay!
We wait at home knowing that our kids are taking the flack!
Oh but yes, they are fighting, the enemy's at their back!
So we wait and we pray, for peace finally to reign;
And rid the world of the wars, so no more killings again!
Nervous anticipation, and fear and pain!
Just wanting them safely, to return home again!
So we put our trust in God, this Icon above,
And pray He will send them, all of His love.
And protect them from harm, as they fight and war;
As we sit at home, wondering what the hell it's all for!!!
