The Mistress of Word Play

I write these words that perhaps one day,
you will understand the reason,
why if tomorrow I'm not here,
that it finally was my season.

Pray please don't mourn or hold to me,
pray, let me rest in peace,
for all things end when it is time.
Yes, everything must cease.

I feel no remorse for deeds I've done,
nor for moments never seen.
Relief is all I feel now,
my soul at last is clean.

Pray, please don't cry no not for me,
instead mourn for the living,
for life is always take and hurt,
seldom spent in giving.

What was the good Lord thinking of,
when he put us here on earth,
merely to watch us kill each other,
and to see us giving birth?

I wonder how life might be,
if He were only here,
to lend a hand and guide us,
and cock a willing ear?

It matters little now to me,
my journey is at an end.
I'll say good-bye to you.
You've always been my friend.
