Drops In The Bucket

Drops In The Bucket

If you listen
just a little closer
and if you would stay
just a moment longer
you might be able to hear
these drops of regret
fall into the bucket
and you might be able to see
all my tears
filling up the bottle

I told myself I would love you better
one day I would be more than just a name
but I did everything it seems
to lead me back to being alone
you was so close
you could crawl under my skin
but I never would you see the real me
fear kept me from letting you in

so many things I told myself
to make me feel like I was doing you a favor
but not letting you experience us
I now know I did a disservice
to both of us
because what is real is never planned
what stays glued
has to be built on surface
I was just like the sand
so warm but slipping through your fingers

so many drops in the bucket
see it's left a dent
so many tear stains
a tall glass of regret
and I have nobody to blame
but the one I see in the mirror
myself......
