He Smiled

He smiled,
and in that moment I was lost.
I had forgotten the pain love cost.
He was here,
love had returned.

He smiled,
and in an instant in that look,
we wrote the ending of a book.
Yes I had thrown away,
all the things I had learned.

He smiled,
and for an eternity I loved again,
giving of myself as I had then,
but I can only recall,
his leaving.

He smiled,
yet I remember him with sorrow,
for us there could be no tomorrow.
Yes, now I am left,
with just my grieving.
