The Mistress of Word Play

Into the darkness of night she goes,
among the stars and endless wave of black.
She's looking for heaven only knows,
perhaps a way to bring those moments back.

Across the moonlit avenue,
her mind expands as does the night,
She is holding fast to things found true,
gentle wanderer, on her ceaseless flight.

Below the ground seems to enfold,
it reaches for her dress, which swirls around,
The night yearns to embrace her threadbare soul,
for the evening holds a lonely sound.

I watch from my window as she goes,
down the mystic path of should have been.
I watch how freely her long blonde hair flows,
and I wonder to myself could I be her again?

Something in the darkness brings,
A moment's reflection a sense of yesterday.
It fills the mind with strange imaginings,
And for that second one can simply slip away.

All too true for I know it's me,
walking there beneath the empty sky.
Lost in thought, pure energy,
a blade of starlight an unreleased sigh.
