Your life was lived as mine is being lived,
with no further thought about tomorrow.
I know how you must have felt at times,
when there were no dreams left to borrow.

Smoke filled rooms, just one last show,
the lights go dim, but not in your fragile mind.
You wander, a restless spirit of the theatre,
that seeks something she could never find.

It seems more and more, I have become like you,
a lost and lonely child of this crazy world.
You could never rest, or close your eyes to sleep,
until that last banner hung unfurled.

The darkness comforts me as it must have you,
there are times when fantasies are my only friends.
After I am dead and gone, turned to blackened ash,
is this the place where misery finally ends?

I cannot help thinking how sad your life was,
for someone so beautiful to die so young.
All your dreams were given to others,
and you left so many songs unsung.

Maybe you are finally at peace with yourself,
I feel in heart that you are.
Those others who never understood as I do,
were at least right when they called you a star.

I feel the heartbreak you must have encountered,
and I cry the same tears you must have cried.
The two of us are alike, chasers of the stars,
I know because we at least tried.
