..·:*¨¨*:· Stripped of Shame ..·:*¨¨*:·I slowly awoke lost in a strange place A person was near me but I couldn't see the face I heard my name called from so far away In space I floated on clouds I swayed The silhouette of a man peered down at me Through a veil of haze I could barely see I opened my mouth but no words came out I did not understand why I could not shout My right hand would not obey my command Restrained to the bed was my left hand And then I heard a man's gentle voice "My darling, the docs. are doing all they can" I started to tremble praying it was a dream "I'm your husband!" he whispered, I tried to scream I started to struggle but all was in vain He untied my left wrist kissed the swollen veins I reached a hand up to my aching head I was left wondering what on earth did I do Slowly he told me the doctor did their best A brain surgery was done to pull me through Then I realized I was hooked to machines A nurse slipped in to moniter a screen My world changed into a nightmare in hell Of nurses and doctors and hospital smell Going and coming silently around the clock The lack of privacy threw me in shock An eight week coma had taken its toll I layed unmoving in paralasis locked My long brown hair was shaved from my head The humiliation made me wish I was dead Probing and searching as naked I lay Through endless mumbles of whatever they'd say Stripped of all shame I surrendered my mind In silence I left this cruel world behind I traveled inward in search of my soul I found her waiting to take over control Peacefully we rested by the sandy edge Of an emerald green ocean and there I pledged Somehow I would survive to write these lines As a stroke survivor in rhythm and rhymes copyright©2006Irene ..·:*¨¨*:· ..·:*¨¨*:· ..·:*¨¨*:· ..·:*¨¨*:· Note: It is only by the Lord's mercy that I have lived to share my experiences after my stroke of Sept. 21/01 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem |
