Rog's Rhymes~~~Lost In The Sixties

~THE SIG BOX~

Lost In the Sixties

There she goes so lightly, gaily, prancing up the hill
To go to the old Dew Drop Inn tonight to drink her fill
She never learns a thing by the serious mistakes she makes
And every single morning her poor old head sorely aches

In her mind, it's just a teenager she would always be
But in stark reality, a gray-haired grandmother is she
Every night she searches for youth she thinks she's lost
And later, in restless sleep and dreams she's tossed

She dreams of past loves in her beer-laced slumber
Of her many romances she counts the advancing number
She can't say she hasn't lived her veracious life to the hilt
But the bloom is now off the rose and its starting to wilt

How she hates when the Dew Drop gang is a bit too polite
She'll slam down her glass, take her leave, and call it a night
To defer to her advanced age is for certain a grave mistake
Angry exceptions to remarks of that sort she will always take

She's lost in the sixties and will she ever find her way back?
I wish I knew but that great insight into human nature I lack
Her fiery temper and cutting disposition is beginning to wane
But don't call her an old lady cause she'll hit you with her cane

Now I'm in my sixties and think of myself a bit long of tooth
But if I live to be one hundred this time right now is my youth
So dredge up memories, but do it with care because put to a test
These right now days you live should be some of your very best!

I think many times we like to reflect back on our youth as the past is sometimes comfortable for us because we have no control over it.  The mistakes we made as youths have to be rationalized, as they can not be changed.  Many of us though tend to lay the burdens of our past mistakes heavily on ourselves in our advancing years.  One important fact that I believe with all my heart is that we as the people we are today are made who we are by the combined successes and failures of our earlier days.  You can not feel for others if you have not experienced grief and others have felt for you.  We are not born being good people; we become good people through our life experiences both good and bad.
