~In the Best of Hands~
As I enter this place
of white everywhere
The smell of blood,
medicine, death, is
Overpowering
My stomach churns
as I remember,
the last time I was here
Never wanting to return
to the horrors, a part
of life, never accepted
I walk the halls trying
to change my mindset
before I reach my
destination, the sign says
Intensive Care Unit
Immediate Family Only
On this visit,
one of many,
I again bring to you
my heart
my love
my hope
my faith
that you will be awake
I hold your hand
telling you of the many
Remember Whens
we shared
Happy and joyful
The good times
The doctor enters
says it is time to make
a decision
You squeeze my hand
the only time, telling me,
what the right one is
I ask for a minute
The pain in my heart
makes it hard to breathe
As I say a prayer
Asking my Angel Son
to take you home
I tell you it has been an honor
to have you for a friend
and tell you it is okay
to go home now,
thanks for waiting for me
I will miss you deeply
But know
You are leaving this world
In the best of hands
