Heart Of The Matter
Morning Sonnet
I woke today not keen to raise my head,
For even bright blue sky failed to entice,
Oh! How I wish that I could stay in bed,
I lay there for a while, the phone rang twice,
I pick it up, “good morning and goodbye”,
Procrastinated as my wont would be,
I do not wish to move, but I must try,
For time is marching on, Oh! Woe is me,
I drag myself to kitchen, pour a cup,
Of strong black coffee in my favourite mug,
That strong black nectar quickly lifts me up,
And clears my head of early morning fug.
I really would have liked to stay in bed,
But had a shower and went to work instead.
