Thanks to the PoetsWhy is it we seek these poets? These poetry readings These spoken performances These moments that make us Feel more alive That make rise in us Theses feelings that come in Like waves that make us feel More alive than In our own mundane lives? Living like sawdust And moth balls Wanting something We cannot name Until we feel it. We all have these little Poets They live inside us And we don't know it Until we hear the angry and brutally honest parts of ourselves on the stage pouring our own hearts out. We find in their anger Our backbones Our dignity Our confidence Our justice And Our justification. We need their Passion To give us strength To stand up for Everything That we don't Have the strength Nor courage To do without Their poems In our lives. Thank you For helping us To feel alive And face the oppressors In our lives With a little more dignity With a little more courage With a little more confidence I thank you We thank you.
