Inside the Mind Imagine a place where the sun shines without warmth Where lifeless rivers flow into a dead sea Where the sound of laughter contains no joy What and awful, soulless, place that would be. Imagine that is the place that you hold in your mind Where you never feel truly happy or free Where for reasons that you cannot really understand You are trapped and the future is difficult to see. When you get to that place, without reason or warning Your life starts to crumble, your mind falls apart, Do not fear, run and hide; but find just enough courage To seek answers and help, that can rescue your heart. Though the path be a long one with many a twist And the obstacles set there seem too great to bear Find the right guiding hand, be it secular or holy You're no longer alone, if just one person cares. When you take that first step, so scared and confused The memories you've hidden of fear, hurt and pain Come flooding to consciousness, give them their freedom, Release them, embrace them, to be whole again. Somewhere on that journey you lose all the hate And forgiveness for those who had caused such despair Brings peace and wellbeing to your own inner space, You hear joy in laughter, feel the suns' warmth on the air. So I ask you, although you know not who I am I've been where you are, so I do understand In my words, please find strength to take that first step And in your mind - feel that I have a hold of your hand, I am alongside you to help soothe the pain And rejoice in the day that you find YOU again!
