Heart Of The Matter

The Wedding March

The wedding march rang loudly in my ear,
I watched you as you stood expectantly,
The moment had arrived to face my fear,
I looked at you; you turned and looked at me,

The bride, resplendent in her wedding gown,
The heady scent of blossom filled the air,
Her father gave her hand, I saw you frown,
Your smile belied your feeling of despair,

I watched you take your vows till death do part,
To cherish, love and honour from this day,
I felt the dagger pierce my wounded heart,
And wished I'd had the strength, to stay away.

You kiss the bride, no longer are you free,
Last night, you said you wished it could be me.
