How we work to reach Heaven so many boast
Of good deeds wrought we have done the most
Surely God pays heed and will not condemn
But only self righteous rags cover over them
Who go to worship and make long prayer
And sneer at their sinful neighbour beside them there
No faults of their own and to think they are best
A class of people above the unclean rest
But God answers back; "Have you not understood
I know all hearts and there is none that is good
You are dead in sin and that is why
I sent my precious Son on a cross to die
Would I have let Him hang to suffer on a tree?
If all of you had been acceptable to me
There is none that doeth right; no not one
And the only way to me is through the blood of my Son
For it is not of yourself but by my grace
And through faith in me that you should place
It's your acceptance of my Son that pleases me most
And not the works of you hands that you can boast
Put your trust in me first and then you can work
The labours I set; no one can shirk
Not to win my favour but know this instead
That faith without works is completely dead
For how will people know that you belong to me?
If the workings of your faith they cannot see
To work without faith is nothing to boast
But faith with works show that you love me the most"
