Come walk with me along the way
Trace again the steps Jesus took that day
When He climbed Golgotha's hillside
And was nailed to a cross with arms stretched wide
Listen again to hammer ring on nail
Can you hear a sorrowing mother wail?
As she watches every cruel blow
To a Son she cradled in her arms long ago
When once she lifted Him from manger bed
Her Son; raised up; now hung and bled
A Son like Him; there was no other
Was ever held in the arms of a mother
What manner of Man is this?
Betrayed in Gethsemane with a kiss
Now hanging in agony on centre tree
With His arms outstretched for you and me
If you have walked with me the path He trod
Stand now to gaze at the Son of God
His blessed hands with nails fixed through
Fixes His arms wide open for me and you
But then not nails; for they never could
Keep Him hanging there from that cross of wood
For if He willed, He could have come down that day
Folded His arms to chest and walked away
But love for sinners kept Him there to the grave
Now risen to Glory with strong arms to save
There is forgiveness for sin if you come by grace
To the arms of Jesus willing to embrace
Flee to the arms reaching out in love
Arms that will carry you to mansions above
Leaning on everlasting arms; trusting in His Word
Save in the arms of Jesus your Saviour and Lord
