In darkness lost, a myriad of thoughts provoked,
The mind altered a moment which time evoked.
The triumph of light, a cleansing of heart and soul,
There is a sense of losing oneself, that shifting of control.
Moments, hours, years are passing wrapped in summer's glow.
I feel the movement of earth and sky a steady constant flow.
I am lost and yet so filled with these silent ponderings.
Here among God's gifts and this, my evening wanderings.
Among the leaf clad trees and color spun sky,
I walk the trails others have and watch this season die.
A cooler wind caresses my cheek and makes me smile,
This moment is precious so dear I'll walk on for awhile.
Down to the stream bed where the moss is still green,
Past the neighbor's farmhouse to spots rarely seen.
I keep absorbing the beauty and hold memories fast.
For I know in my soul soon this season will pass.
Back to my home now, back to the fire,
Time to stop wandering; it's soon time to retire.
One last look out the window as the sun it is setting,
Already I have sorrow, already regretting.
How the day seemed too short, how the hours are leaving,
Soon winter will come and I'll be left grieving.
No more walks in the meadow, no more walks by the streams,
But I'll hold fast my memories and walk on in my dreams.
