THIS POET'S PARADISE

Conifer Lodge, Snoqualmie Pass
My paradise it didn't last
Our "A" frames gone and the lodge too
But now I have these tiles from the old swimming pool

With these tiles I can make a design
That will remind me of a lovely time
When I was 15 and lived in 30 feet of snow
When I was young so long ago

It's healing to go back
Back to places of old memories
To see how we change
To realize how times flees

We can only go forward
Yesterday is gone
That's why I want to write it down
My thoughts down in these songs

Like Noah and I on the Yakima Greenway
Riding bikes four miles and feeling free
Feeling free is what it's all about
The exhilaration of going out

Out into the world
Away from our town
To see different cultures
To bring an open mind around

An open mind is an excellent gift
When you see others as okay
It gives you a lift
It gives you a way

A way toward healing
A way to understand another feeling
A way to compensate
A way not to hate

To love is better
An affection through stormy weather
I loved on Snoqualmie Pass
I still love---it's made to last

My paradise is now here in my mind
The green, the snow, the happy times
I thank God for the beauty there
There at Snoqualmie Pass and everywhere.
