Cool Vittles

From drays on a pond to the ice man's thong,
This man would bring ice while singing a song.
Mom would take the large block of ice from this man,
And put it in the icebox over the drip pan.
I would empty this pan several times a day outside,
Yet as the ice melted it kept the food cool inside.
Yes I remember these days from my childhood,
The icebox was made from enamel and wood.
It had several shelves to store food from heat,
And kept the food fresh for my family to eat.
