They took him to the rooftop
For they could not get through the door
They ripped the covering off
And lowered the sick man to the floor
For what are true friends for
But to lend a helping hand
To be there in times of need
And to help and understand
Just a shoulder to cry on
A loving touch or warm embrace
Just someone to encourage
When troubles are hard to face
Who share in the good times
The merriment and the fun
But especially share the sorrows
When laughter there is none
To be there is all that is needed
To neither break or bend
To be a rock in heartaches turmoil
A truly special friend
Yes; they had carried the sick man in his bed
They showed their love and care
For they knew the healer of mind; body and soul
Was standing in that building there
They had brought him to the Saviour
The greatest friend of all
For they He was the answer to prayer
And on Him they could call
Thank God for true friends
Who your burdens share
And most of all that they will
Carry you to God in prayer
