A thing of little substance
In the grand scheme of things.
Somehow we deal with
The turmoil that life brings.
So I sit here with my grief,
My heartaches and my pain,
And I don't want sunshine noises
But crashing smashing rain;
Just until I grasp the fact
That she has left has gone
And I adjust and accept
Life still goes on.
I want the world to close
To give me the relief
Of coping with my life as well
As coping with my grief.
Laugh and the world is with you
But if it's ever known
You're struggling with a crisis
Sure as fate you're on your own.
I can hear the birds singing,
Hear laughter on the street,
Hear slap slap slap of rope
For children's skipping feet.
The sun is still shining
There are clouds in the sky
The world is still turning
I still sit here and cry:
