Part Three of Black Forest Tales "Fredrick the Cursed"
The third installment on Black Forest tales. Enjoy. Susan
Fredrick as a young boy offended a fairy of the night.
Now he bore the curse of the fairy's vicious slight.
He was cursed from that day to carry a repulsive mark
and he wandered the lone highway forever lost in dark.
No man or woman would approach in nighttime or the day.
The spot upon his forehead held all mankind at bay.
Across the desolate land Fredrick the cursed would ride
through the Black Forest down the trails well tried.
One October morn he rode further into the forest deep
and he chanced upon a fairy maid lying fast asleep.
He also spied the red tail hawk circling way up high.
Fredrick scooped the fairy up so she would not die.
The fairy as she awakened did realize her plight.
Fredrick had saved her. She had to make things right.
She said, “Travel up the mountains, halfway to the top
Beware as you journey there, do not look back or stop.
There lies a pool of water which cures every ill.
Drink fast from the pool. Let nature work her will.”
He thanked the little fairy and went upon his way.
Perhaps he could reverse the spell cast that evil day.
Long and hard traveled he till he came upon the spot
through treacherous ravines his horse and he had fought.
There across the magic pool he saw the golden glimmer.
His shadow cast upon the surface did serenely shimmer.
He drank long from the water as the fairy maid had said
and the more he drank the blotch lightened on his head.
At last, the image in the pool which reflected back his face
was proof the curse was gone, there remained not a trace.
Lesson here to be learned:
all evil can be overturned
if kindness we do show.
Love for others is the key
to unlock precious harmony
it makes the goodness flow.
