To the poets who love rhyming verse and the old style of writing. From the Mistress
I have since starting college noticed a mechanics
in writing styles which galls me to no end.
Writing free lance and not rhyming words
seems more and more the trend.
If you make words to rhyme
and turn those prolific words into verse
to the instructors you are doomed
it's looked upon as being a curse.
I grew up loving Elizabeth Barrett Browning
and dear Mr. Robert Frost
yet now these works are discarded
and so much beauty is forever lost.
In the classrooms of the colleges
they treat lyrics like so much trash.
They teach the students to write garbled poems
if they want to make some cash.
I will not conform.
even if it is the norm.
I tell you this I speak it true,
I'll write my poems the way I do.
