GOLDEN RING ON HIS RIGHT HAND

He wore that gold ring for me
He didn't want to be free
He didn't have a woman for nine years
Then here I was with my tears

He took me anyway
He stayed and didn't go away
In my life and in my bed
He let me sleep with hand on head

He called me wife, patted my butt
We had a life, created a rut
It was comfortable and warm
We weathered many a storm

We were blessed with three grand kids one year
All of them to us were dear
Now we have seven between us two
You're here for a visit and I will love you

I will call you my King Arthur again
We are still there as a friend
You've had two heart attacks in life
I remember when you let me be your wife

You were funny
Gave us money
I did too
We were true

Now your health is failing
Now my emotions are wailing
Will you come back to my bed
Let me sleep with my hand on your head

Will we snuggle down so cozy at rest
Will I give you my best
You're only here for six weeks or so
Again I want to let you know

I care for you
How can I be blue
When you're last day could be today
Lord don't take my friend away

His life he lived and he tried
Any day he could have died
Diabetes gets you down
Don't be afraid, I'll be around

Old like you
Lonely too
Just sing your songs to me
While you're here, let us be.
