It was another rainy day in London
It was another rainy day in London
The dark clouds above me
And the grey pavements at my feet
I thought of you, which made me happy
Although you're out of my reach

The shadows of the houses of parliament
Shimmer on the Thames sullen waters
I walk down the embankment
Past the homeless man whose missed by his daughters

The seagulls sweeping by and I swear they speak polish now
A tourist in my own city
As I cross London Bridge and past the tower
Past the gypsies clutching their babies, looking for pity

I find myself in the city where the suits are as hard pressed as their faces
The rain has saturated my jacket and jeans
I hear the abuse from the taxi drivers, arguing about parking spaces
I stare at the people on their mobile phones plotting secret schemes

Nelson looks out at what he helped to save
The flag flies at half-mast today at Buckingham Palace
She must be away, recruiting another slave
I really should do something about my malice

The London eye sees more than you think
Is what I eavesdrop on a conversation
Inside this pub whilst I was having a drink
I head home half cut, and head for the nearest station

The tube trains are like travelling in a tin can
As I am crushed like a tin of sardines
Stepping on the toes of the businessman
I look at the posters protesting to bring back home our marines

I reach into my pocket and take out my oyster card
No money now needed to travel, is what they want you to believe
A man buys flowers from the station flourist, he's trying very hard
I smile, as I am sure he has something else up his sleeve

Living in this city has made me cynical and slightly withdrawn
And I spend the evening at home, watching trash on TV
Safe in my thoughts, with the curtains drawn
I think about life whilst drinking my tea

The rain outside is begining to ease
And i drift of to sleep
I find myself whispering a 'please'
Don't let me be another sheep.
