Oh foolish pride that lifts up high
The self importance of mortal being
Vanity blinds them to what they are
For only their self worth they are seeing
Who are so proud with head in air
Pompous fools; vulgar and vain
With self righteous rags they clothe themselves
And sneer at others with disdain
We thank you Lord we are not like them
The low life that lies in life's gutter
How good we are; wholesome; clean
Self praising words they foolish utter
But God hears and sees and tries each one
The thoughts of the heart He will know
The repentant humble He will exalt
And the foolish proud He will bring low
Then they who are abased are lifted up
God's righteous garments clothes them now
They knew their worth and confessed it all
As in humility their heads did bow
Have mercy Lord for we are but sinners
For the likes of us you did die
We dare not look up to your Heaven
Until from the mire you lift us high
Now we are proud but in this only
To lift the name of Jesus high
To walk each day with the King
And for a home in glory when we die
Oh foolish pride that hardens your heart
That will not let your knee bend
To bow your head in humble repentance
Pride that comes before your fall and your end
