Returning

Dusty memories appear silently
crouching, camouflaged behind
inadvertent glances.
The past hovers like a mirage,
demanding attention.
Must we drown in a flood
of impossibility?
Soot covered indiscretions are cleansed
by forgiveness.
Playful memories, obscured amidst the clutter,
breathe new life.
Could a tiny grain of sand
that caused a shameful demise
give birth to a lustrous pearl?
Old memories wear protective layers
of illusion.
A wounded heart licks freshly healed scars.
Haunting words dissolve into
lifeless echoes.
Warm skin against my welcoming cheek
melts malignant blemishes.
Help this tired heart caress
a fragile past,
returning, at last, to a deep love once shared.
