Still Daddy
I know things have changed quit a bit
The old solution to the new problems no longer fit
All is not as it use to be
There have been changes in you as well as in me
With all that as transpired these past few years
And life is presenting vast new fears
In looking deep into the face of change
With all that is different one thing remains
I am still daddy
The man at school when things weren't right
The man peaking in your room softly saying good-night
The man who came up with games when things got boring
The man that made pancakes on saturday morning
The man behind the wheel on those adventurous drives
The man who put too much salt on his fries
The man of discipline when he had cause to
The man who explained that cause to you
The man who loved you as much in your wrong
The man who forgave, forgot and simply moved on
I am still daddy
With all of the things that were said and done
With the rise and set of each new sun
Each day presenting something brand new
choices appear like the morning dew
Opinion swirl about like the wind through the trees
Gossip will buzz like a nest full of bees
If there is any words about my love for you
Question your heart to see what is true
If in your search you should find any doubt
Then by all means shut me out
But what I believe your heart will reveal
The love I had, and still have is very real
I am still daddy
