No Going Back
A smart woman knows
pretty much from the start
when her lover is using
just half of his heart.
Expressions of love
that made my eyes runny
like "how is my baby?"
or "I miss you, honey"
Evolve into passionless
greetings you send
like, "how was your day,
see you later, my friend."
Those soft words of passion
I used to hold dear
are now perhaps music
to another ones ear?
Now when we talk
no flags are unfurled
no sweat's on my brow
my toes are uncurled.
Its passion I need
from the man in my life,
not tepid endearments
that cut like a knife.
If it's friendship you want
between you and me,
you got it, my friend,
there's more fish in the sea!
**Oh dear, does this make me high maintenance" Hah!"
